Background
He completed a research degree at the Royal Free Hospital, London on Helicobacter pylori infection, gastric acid secretion and protection of the gastric mucosa.
He has been back to England for another year of research - this time in Oxford - studying Inflammatory bowel disease.
He has written over a 140 research papers. His current interests are primarily in the interaction between diet and genetics in Crohn's disease, quality audits in colonoscopy and Helicobacter pylori infection.
He is Honarary Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Auckland Medical School.
He is past president of the New Zealand Society of Gastroenterology
He is Past chair of the Training advisory committee of Royal Australian College of Physicians repsonsible for training gastroenterologists in NZ
He is a member of PTAC, the advisory committee to PHARMAC, since 2014.
